The Diary of Anne Frank
For my Holocaust project, I watched the movie The Diary of Anne Frank. This is a very bold movie to me. It and the book on which it is based, are very famous. The story comes from the journal that was left behind by Anne. Her diary recorded the events that described the life of a Jewish family while in hiding from Nazi's during World War II. The Frank family and two other families hid in an annex where her father worked. Their non-jewish friends hid them there for two years. During this time, they lived in constant fear of being captured. Though they tried to live a normal life, there were certain restrictions to guarantee their safety. They weren't allowed to look at windows, for fear of being seen. During the day time, while the office was being occupied they had to remain silent. Their life in hiding at sometimes had happy moments when being together. Typically, it was filled with fear and sorrow. Being caught would certainly lead to being captured and being lead to concentration camps.
I agree that it showed a close connection to what happened during the 1940's. I was absolutely amazed by the movie because it did indeed show a true experience during that time. It provides a good understanding of what a hideout would look like, and the struggles of families hiding from the Germans. The movie. gives me chills at some points because it truly did gives an example of what it would be like to be part of Anne's family. The Diary of Anne Frank does not go into detail of what happened in the concentration camps. But, it did show an important part of the time, Many jews lived in hiding throughout Germany. It's interesting to see how they survived with the help of their non-Jewish friends. I think I was given a great understanding of what went through these people's minds during the Holocaust. It was intriguing to watch their whole journey in hiding, and how they tried to stay happy.
